It was in April at Nucleus Gallery in Alhambra. Here are three of the pieces I put in. I gotta look for the Wizard Battle concept sketch too.

The Barker. Watercolor, a tiny one. It’s from a part that got cut out of the episode “Go With Me”.

Title? Another tiny watercolor not from any episode, just for fun. The beast is based on a post it drawing I did to mark my progress/ count clean up pages.

Monumental Friend. Watercolor… Not from any specific episode, just something fun.

Yaya! I’m so pleased to be in a show at GR2 with Yellena James and Elsa Mora. Saturday, April 16 (#1 friends Bday) 2011. I’m looking forward to meeting them and seeing amazing work at the opening.

Also, on the same night: Nucleus Gallery will be hosting the opening event for The Adventure Time Exhibit! I’ll have something in there, and I think my co-workers are going to make it a knockout as usual! The only thing not rad about this is that it’s on the same night as the GR opening across town, so I won’t be able to make it.

Every year Giant Robot celebrates the Lunar New Year with a show of art featuring the animal of the eastern Zodiac. This year is RABBIT!

“Don’t Be Alarmed: New Work by Kris Chau and Ako Castuera” opened in October at Rowan Morrison Gallery in Oakland. Many, many thanks to Kris, Narangkar and Pete, and to Rob, who made it possible for me to get this show up and keep my marbles from spilling out of my head. The piece below is titled “Another Day”. It’s a watercolor.

Card for Kris Chau and my show in October

Kris Chau and I are having a show together at Rowan Morrison Gallery in Oakland, Ca. I’m pretty excited about this, cause I always wanted to do a show with Kris, and I love having anything to do with Narangkar and Pete at RoMo. So all that’s left is to complete the work. Working on that and working and working is going on.
This card image is a collaboration we worked out from across the country. I wish Chau was in LA!

The tedium of cleaning up a storyboard can make a person go nutty. The typical animated 11 minute episode is completed by a two person team, with each person responsible for 100-150 pages of drawing and writing. Each page consists of 2 panels.
The fun part of coming up with ideas and arranging the sequences is pretty much over by the time one is cleaning up a board, so I entertain myself by making these drawings with little circles to represent each page. I like to put the working title of the episode ( in this case, Masters of Romance), and the number of pages represented.
It’s more satisfying to finish a page when I can fill in the circles, and it gives me a worthwhile object of procrastination.

This post was another excuse for me to procrastinate.
I must now return to cleaning my last storyboard of the season, and frying the last of my brains.
